چکیده

Convolvulus arvensis L. Scop. (field bindweed) is a difficult weed to manage in organic cropping systems. suppression often requires intensive tillage and cultivation practices that have negative impacts on soil quality. To improve C. management organic, small grain systems, we compared ten system treatments field trial from the autumn of 2017 until harvest 2020 Corvallis, MT, USA. Cropping varied along gradient crop competition, with intensity competition inversely related. High disturbance no occurred two remained tilled fallow for consecutive years. Six had different combinations annual or biennial crops, including wheat forages. Two minimal maximum years perennial alfalfa. ramet density was counted annually estimate changes over time. Differences chemical physical properties between were also assessed final study. In first years, there difference among treatments. study, below one per m 2 intensively alfalfa treatments, but much more variable diverse rotations moderate tillage. The only differences aggregate stability. Soil most lower stability than six other indicating higher erosion potential. Our results suggest systems can lead increased density. Incorporating forage an period prevent expansion protect enhance

Nitrogen, tillage, and crop rotation effects on nitrous oxide emissions from irrigated cropping systems.

We evaluated the effects of irrigated crop management practices on nitrous oxide (N(2)O) emissions from soil. Emissions were monitored from several irrigated cropping systems receiving N fertilizer rates ranging from 0 to 246 kg N ha(-1) during the 2005 and 2006 growing seasons. Cropping systems included conventional-till (CT) continuous corn (Zea mays L.), no-till (NT) continuous corn, NT corn...

Tropane alkaloids and toxicity of Convolvulus arvensis.

Horses in a few, localized northern Colorado pastures exhibited weight loss and colic. At post mortem, intestinal fibrosis and vascular sclerosis of the small intestine was identified. The pastures where the affected horses grazed were overrun by field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis). Bindweed from the pasture was found to contain the tropane alkaloids tropine, pseudotropine, and tropinone and ...

Individual and interactive effects of crop type and management on weed and seed bank composition in an organic rotation

We investigated the effects of organic and conventional pest and fertility management on weed cover and the seed bank community in an organic rotation. The study was conducted during the 4th and 5th years of an organic rotation on part of a long term organic-conventional comparison trial. Results showed that although crop type (potato vs. cabbage) in a single year significantly affected wee...

Effects of Strip-cropping on Small Mammal Population Dynamics in Soybean Agroecosystems

The present study examined the effects of strip-cropping and harvesting practices on small mammal population dynamics in soybean agroecosystems. Small mammals were live-trapped in four treatments (three replicates each): soybean monoculture, soybean-clover, soybean-buckwheat, and soybean-corn. Peromyscus maniculatus was found in all four treatment types, whereas Mus musculus resided mainly in t...
